I raised it with Aperture via the provide feedback button on Saturday and was very impressed by the speedy response with a workaround. Note: I’m currently running a fresh install of Mavericks on a MacBooK Pro with Retina display, Aperture 3.5.1 and Nik Collection version 1.108 Level: Intermediate App: Apple Aperture DxO Nik Collection Platform: macOS Windows Author: Rafael - MyDarkroom.ca Let us know in the comments if this works for you! It seems that the bug is related to generating the preview after editing with Nik (although forcing to generate a new preview doesn’t fix the problem). Once you save the image and you are back into Aperture, then you can enter the Viewer mode without getting the grey screen bug! However restarting Aperture every time you edit a picture with Nik Plug-ins doesn’t sound like a good plan.ĭo NOT start the plug-in from the viewer mode, but rather from the Browser mode (right click on the image: edit with plug-in, then the Nik Plug-in Silver Effex Pro 2 for example). After restarting Aperture, everything comes back to normal. Yet interestingly, if you open the loupe, you can see the image through it (see screenshot below). At this point you cannot see any other image in the viewer anymore-edited with Nik or not. While Capture One support is not explicitly stated, it seems to work as well as it does with Lightroom, with the old difference being the commands you use to invoke them and a slight difference in workflow. There’s an annoying bug when editing images using the Nik Collection of plug-ins and Aperture 3.5.1 on Mac OS X Mavericks: once you save the image and go back to viewer mode, it only shows grey. ![]() While it isn’t perfect and has some limitations, it’s a huge improvement from not being able to use them. This non-destructive editing ability, while it has its limitations, is a big step up for this suite of applications. This doesn’t support the non-destructive editing of the other applications, unless it’s hidden somewhere. All of the applications support this feature, except for the new Perspective Efex.To do this, you would have to go through photoshop and use smart layers, but I’m not sure how well the applications support smart layers. Once you open and save from a second application it will kill the editability from the first. If you try and open the file in one of the other applications from the suite it will flatten it. So edits you make in Silver Efex Pro will only work in Silver Efex Pro and so on. It only works on a per-application basis. This ability to re-edit a file is a big improvement over the previous versions, where once you save your edits are baked in permanently, but there are a couple of limitations: To check, go to the preferences, and then the Plug-in tab. If you’re not seeing anything in the Edit-in menu then this could be the reason. When I updated to Capture One 20, version 13.1 the Open With Menu plug-in was disabled for some reason. If that is the case, here are some steps to try: Step 1: Make sure the “Open In” Plug-in is enabled. However, some people have reported that they don’t see the applications in these menus. For most people they should show up once you’ve installed them, in the “Edit With” and “Open With” menus. The Nik Collection of plug-ins works with Capture One as external editors, rather than being native plug-ins but that doesn’t really make any practical difference. Here’s what to do… Make Sure the Plug-ins are visible Well, I’m happy to report that this feature also works with Capture One. When you edit an image in one of the suite’s plug-ins from Lightroom using a Tiff, you can re-edit the image later and have all of your settings loaded on the original image. ![]() When DXO announced the latest update to the Nik Collection suite of plug-ins last week, one of the key features is that it now offers a non-destructive workflow when working with Lightroom. ![]() ![]() HR technical competence should be clearly stated in the evaluations.Slice420 in BEAUTIFUL Colorado Springs, Colorado is seeking restaurant professionals to join our growing team! Should you need to make a break for it and can’t cover him then you can use other players nearby to have an outlet to keeping hold of the ball. So you should still make sure to keep the ball carrier safe from an easy hit like any other player holding the ball. Dump Off also isn’t a guarantee to keep hold of the ball and you will be a bit miffed if you fumble the pass and then they just rolled a push back on the hit. Coupled with their lower AV7 they can also get hurt if they get knocked down. They start with no defensive skills and also don’t have Dodge if they get bogged down. This can spread the play and defence out making it easier for you to move the ball off to another area of the pitch and screen them off again.ĭump Off doesn’t mean you should just leave your Runner open to being hit though. These combine to forcing the other team to have to look at covering all those nearby targets. This works well for Elves compared to other players as their higher agility means the tackle zone of the attacker is less of an issue and there will be more targets for you to pass the ball too who are likely to catch it. Dump Off is the key here as should the other team get to hit your Runner you can try a pass to a nearby team mate. There is also a temptation to be overly reckless with them as well.ĭark Elves are better at running the ball using screens and even cages, than passing like the other Elf teams. This leads to them being used in a somewhat different way than you may be used to using. The Dark Elf Runner though is faster and they also come with Dump Off rather than Pass and/or Sure Hands. Typically most Thrower types will be the same speed as their side’s Lineman. This will also give me the opportunity to consider a paint scheme and team name. There are still a lot of team members to assemble and convert, but I am excited to continue to work on them. Two Dark Elf players facing off against each other! The Dark Elf models are surprisingly large, rivaling Primaris Space Marines. As I assemble more of the team members, I think I will make other subtle modifications to their dragonscale cloaks or gauntlets to further differentiate the duplicated sculpts in the team. I sculpted chin straps on the helmets to help keep them in place. The official helmets leave the lower half of the faces heavily exposed. Currently I have modified the helmets by adding additional plating around the jaw-line. I am planning to make each of the helmets unique, to help differentiate between team members. Thus far I have assembled two, and have only modified their helmets. Since the basic models are so strong, I decided I did not need to do much in the line of conversion work on them. Milliput works really well for sculpting smooth plates of armor, like the crescent plates I added to the sides of the blitzer’s helmet. The Blitzer model is probably my favorite of the set, the pose perfectly captures the brutality of Blood Bowl! Unlike a lot of the models Games Workshop releases, these do not have massively oversized feet! The team members are also adopting believable poses and none of them come off as awkward. All of the models in the team are very well proportioned and wearing sensible equipment (except for the witch elves) for the sport. The Dark Elf Blood Bowl team is one of my favorites teams Games Workshop has released. The main section of the helmet visor was sculpted using milliput, with finer details being done using a mixture of green stuff and Apoxie Sculpt. The only modifications I made to the model were adding some additional armor plating to her helmet. With that in mind, I decided to start assembling a Dark Elf team that had been sitting unused in my collection! Now that a second season was announced, we are preparing to get back into the game. In 2016, when Blood Bowl was released after many years being out of print, we got back into it again, and even started a small league which we never finished. Back in 2006, I got Bronze in the Open category in Golden Daemon Baltimore for a Norse blitzer. Of all the sports-themed games we have played, we always come back to Blood Bowl. Interestingly, our very first blog post was for Mantic Games’ Dreadball. We have never been large sports fans, but that has not stopped us from playing some miniature-based sports games. ![]() ![]() ![]() When employees feel supported and valued by their employer, they are more likely to be engaged in their work and motivated to perform at their best. While it can certainly be used in the traditional sense for dynamic control, it can simultaneously be used to enhance punch, alter tonality, add movement, and more. First, compression can be used in many different ways. There are no two ways about it: learning to hear compression-or more specifically, learning to hear the effect of compression on your music, and especially the subtler variety typically used in mastering-is one of the most difficult audio engineering skills there is. Train your ears to hear subtle compression while mastering However, keep in mind that imbalances in monitoring such as monitoring chain deficiencies can also add to the challenges when comparing two recordings with different spectral emphasis.ģ. Lead vocals are often a good candidate, but lead synths, horns, or other main melody instruments can also be suitable. To combat this, pick a focal element in each song and compare the levels of those elements. Increase a song’s level and you will perceive it as having more bass and treble decrease its level and it will become more midrange focused. Tonal balance and perceived loudness are inextricably intertwined, making it more difficult to get to grips with the impact of a track’s tonal balance on its loudness. Whatever the case, find the loudest sections of two songs and compare them to easily adjust gain and put them on equal footing. Perhaps this is the final chorus, or the main drop after a big build. It can be difficult to find the average loudness for a song with wide dynamic variation, so it often makes sense to focus on the loudest section. ![]() The training exercise Adjusting overall dynamics Dynamics are a bit easier to dispense with, so let’s discuss those first. And make no mistake, this is a skill that can pay dividends down the road. A momentary or short-term LUFS meter, such as those found in Insight 2, can be a great help when developing this skill, but you’ll likely ultimately find that your ears are the best judge. Simple as it may sound, level matching two songs is one of the most fundamental listening skills a mastering engineer must develop. This is a skill that can take a long time to hone, but the rewards are worth the effort!Ģ. ![]() When you feel like you’re getting a good grip on the different frequency ranges, you can try some ear training apps like iZotope’s own Pro Audio Essentials, or other products like those from PureMix, SoundGym, or Quiztones. As you step through different presets, also pay attention to the level relationships between adjacent octaves. Try bypassing the plug-in periodically, paying special attention to the relationship of the energy in the octave or dual-octave band you’ve been auditioning to the energy of the whole song. Load some of your favorite music into your audio editing software and listen to it while slowly stepping through the presets (you can also do this manually in an EQ of your choice). These 15 Ozone equalizer presets will allow you to step through the individual octaves, or if you’d prefer to start with broader frequency ranges, dual-octave groups. If you’ve never done much frequency-based ear training, these are a great place to start.
